Texas Longhorn football tickets are heating up the box office
Texas Longhorn football ticket sales are back, folks.
In its annual College Football Season Preview, StubHub ranked the Longhorns as the No. 2 in-demand ticket on the market next to the reigning national champion Michigan Wolverines based on the number of cumulative tickets sold by the website. The in-state rivaling Texas A&M Aggies came in third, while Alabama was fourth and Ohio State was fifth.
The reasons for the spark in excitement is obvious: Texas is entering its first season in the Southeastern Conference, is coming off a College Football Playoff appearance with quarterback Quinn Ewers and a slew of veterans on both sides of the ball as well as a non-conference slate that includes playing Michigan in its second game of the season.
StubHub also reported that college football ticket sales increased by 42 percent overall this year, which can largely be attributed to conference realignment. The Big Ten, for example, experienced the biggest increase in ticket sales as compared to last season after adding four new teams: USC, UCLA, Washington and Oregon. But the Southeastern Conference still tops the list of overall number of tickets sold, making up 43 percent of the website’s overall college football ticket sales. By contrast, Texas’ former conference, the Big 12, ranked second-to-last with seven percent of sales.
Though the fellow SEC newcomers, the Oklahoma Sooners, didn’t quite make the Top-10 list of cumulative ticket sales, they did make the list of trending programs, ranking fifth after Texas (No. 4) in most increased ticket sales for the 2024 season. Texas’ Southern Methodist University was actually first in overall highest rate of increase in StubHub ticket sales, a spark fueled by its switch from the American Athletic Conference to the American Coast Conference.
Texas’ new schedule also has some high-intrigue opponents, beating out some of college football’s top rivalries for the most in-demand college football games by ticket sales.
