Sha’Carri Richardson unveiled track named after her at Dallas ISD’s Kincaide Stadium
Sprint star Sha’Carri Richardson returned to her home track for the first time as a two-time Olympic medallist, to officially unveil the track named after her at the Dallas ISD’s Kincaide Stadium.
The Olympic 100m silver medallist and 4x100m relay champion at Paris 2024 unveiled the Sha’Carri Richardson track last week.
“It’s an honour, but it also shows that I have a responsibility to Dallas and DISD,” Richardson was quoted by Dallas News. “I think people forget where I come from and that’s Dallas. That’s where I get my heart. That’s where I get my mind-set.”
The Dallas Independent School District Board of Trustees had voted unanimously last fall to name the track at John Kincaide Stadium after the 24-year-old following her dominant performances at the 2023 World championships where she won the 100m.
Richardson was an eight-time State Champion at Carter High School which is very close to the stadium.
The American moved on to Louisiana State University where she set a new 100m collegiate record of 10.75.
She officially unveiled the stadium’s Sha’Carri Richardson track signage during a football game. It also includes a plaque with a quote from her: “I’m doing it for everyone who looks like me.”
“This is where I come from,” Richardson said. “Thank you for supporting me no matter how far I go.”
Richardson is an inspiration to many in her native town and beyond.
“Sha’Carri, you have often said your grandmother, she’s your superwoman. Dallas ISD says thank you for being all of our superwoman,” said Dallas ISD Superintendent Stephanie S. Elizalde.
