Dallas Cowboys and Pittsburgh Steelers in weather delay as thunderstorms disrupt Sunday Night Football

Sunday Night Football was delayed indefinitely when thunderstorms passed through Pittsburgh for the Steelers game against Dallas Cowboys.

Originally scheduled to begin at 8:20 p.m. ET, the game was delayed ‘until further notice’ with storms in the area. Eventually, kickoff was stated to start at 9:45 ET.

A message on screens at Acrisure Stadium told fans they were allowed to stay in their seats as the players waited in the locker room for an update on the start time.

The city itself was under a severe thunderstorm watch warning in Pennsylvania. Heavy rain was falling on the stadium and television footage on NBC showed lightning hitting the area too.

Zach Wolchuk, of Dallas radio station 1053 The Fan, shared an ominous video on X of rain and strong winds at the stadium and captioned the video: ‘This game isn’t starting soon

Another fan in the stadium shared a stunning video on X of lightning crashing down in the background while the rain poured down onto the field.

And yet some fans were still determined not to miss out on the gameday experience.

One man was seen remaining in his seat, in a poncho, holding his beer underneath to keep it dry – with enough room underneath to carry on drinking.

The showdown will see Dak Prescott and the Cowboys (2-2) face Justin Fields and his team, who are 3-1 ahead of their Week 5 showdown.

Prescott, Fields and their respective teams had been out on the field to warm up when the delay was announced.

But with thunder still being heard as the clock struck 9pm local time, both teams were preparing to play the waiting game
