Due of the COVID-19 pandemic, the Tokyo opening ceremony was staged in a stadium that was almost empty. Athletes participated in a boat parade down the Seine River in Paris. On Friday, July 26, the flotilla started at 7:30 p.m. local time, which translates to 1:30 p.m. Eastern and 10:30 a.m. on the West Coast. The celebrations continued despite the heavy rain, with an estimated 94 boats making their way around the nearly four-mile path.
