Michigan football loses 5th-year tackle Jeff Persi to transfer portal

Michigan offensive lineman Jeffrey Persi has entered the NCAA transfer portal as a graduate transfer, according to multiple reports. Persi, who joined the Wolverines in 2020, appeared in 38 games over his five seasons, including 14 on the offensive line with three starts at left tackle. He was part of Michigan’s Joe Moore Award-winning offensive lines in 2021 and 2022 and is a three-time Academic All-Big Ten honoree.

During the 2024 season, Persi contributed on special teams and played at both guard and tackle positions. He started at left tackle in road games against Washington on October 5 and Illinois on October 19. Despite his experience, Persi faced stiff competition on Michigan’s offensive line, which won the Joe Moore Award in 2021 and 2022.

Persi’s departure adds to the list of offensive linemen leaving the program this offseason, including Raheem Anderson, Tristan Bounds, Dominick Guidice, Andrew Gentry, and Cole Morgan. In response, Michigan has added Cal Poly transfer Brady Norton and Ferris State transfer Lawrence Hattar to bolster their offensive line depth.

As a graduate transfer with one year of eligibility remaining, Persi is likely seeking an opportunity to secure a starting role at another program. Coming out of high school at JSerra Catholic in California, he was a four-star recruit and the No. 310 recruit in the country. We wish him the best in his future endeavors.
