Football for the Oklahoma Sooners: Receiver Room Faces Difficulties as Important Players Step Up

There are big changes happening in the wide receiver room as the Oklahoma Sooners get ready for the new campaign. Now that it’s known that top wide receiver Gibson will likely lose a significant amount of time, focus is on the men who will have to step up to fill the vacuum.
Three players stand out as ones to keep an eye on: J.J. Hester, a redshirt senior; Brenen Thompson, a junior; and Ivan Carreon, a freshman. This week, all three have received first-team reps, and the Sooners’ success will greatly depend on how well they execute.
With his health back, J.J. Hester has had an exceptional fall camp, demonstrating his full ability. Because of his uncommon combination of size and quickness, the coaching staff has used him in a variety of offensive situations. Hester is a threat in a variety of situations thanks to his versatility, and as a seasoned player, he offers invaluable field knowledge. Even while he might yet make a few errors, he has generally had a favorable impact, and his leadership will be essential as the squad overcomes the upcoming hurdles.
Brenen, Junior Throughout fall camp, Thompson has been a major facilitator of play. Despite not being as large as Gibson, Thompson stands out for his versatility. He provides flexibility to the Sooners’ offensive plans because he can be used outside or in the slot. He has demonstrated an aptitude to design explosive plays, and this season, he might play a significant role in Oklahoma’s assault.
